Tip for Using Fire-resistant Fluids

When using any water-glycol fire-resistant hydraulic fluid, always monitor the water level to ensure the required percentage of water is maintained (typically around 50 percent). Naturally, if this product is used in an application where the fluid normally runs hot, the water will evaporate more rapidly. Weekly monitoring may be necessary to guarantee the fluid's integrity related to its fire retardant and safety qualities. (Stan Wojton, Allegheny Petroleum Products)

How to Monitor Oil Degradation

How to Monitor Oil Degradation

Oils can break down in a variety of ways. One of the most prevalent ways is the degradation of the base oil. By monitoring the base oil health as well as additive health, you can ensure that you are changing the oil on time before the oil goes bad or excessive wear occurs inside the engine.

The Importance of Failure Analysis

From "Machinery Condition Monitoring: Principles and Practices":

The primary reasons for conducting an analysis of a metallurgical failure are to determine and describe the factors responsible for the failure of the component or structure. From an engineering standpoint, the proper application of failure analysis techniques can provide valuable feedback on design problems, material limitations and manufacturing flaws.
