Beware the Dangers of Heater Skin Temperature

Beware the Dangers of Heater Skin Temperature

When inspecting the heater, any evidence of sludgy, carbonaceous deposits indicate that the skin temperature is too high. A good rule of thumb is 2.4 watts/cm2 maximum for lower viscosity and/or briskly circulating fluids. For non-circulating and/or higher viscosity fluids, a watt density maximum of 1.6 watts/cm2 should be maintained.

Stop Using Galvanized Oil Cans

Stop Using Galvanized Oil Cans

Galvanized pails have a coating of zinc to protect the steel. Galvanized surfaces tend to flack off causing particle contamination.  Other reported problems include rust inhibitors reactions, zinc showing up in oil analysis, metal soaps causing oil way clogging and reactions with phosphate ester hydraulic fluids.

Better Than a Bull's-eye!

Most bull’s-eye level gauges confirm oil volume but don’t identify root causes and symptoms of machine failure. Luneta’s Condition Monitoring Pod™ allows early detection of abnormal machine and lubricant health conditions.
