Common Causes of Machine Failures

Common Causes of Machine Failures

Machines fail for a variety of reasons. Likewise, not all failures are the same. The term "machinery failure" or "malfunction" usually implies that the machine has stopped functioning the way in which it was intended or designed.

Typical new oils meet specs for performance and viscosity—but not cleanliness. That third spec is compromising your equipment and costing your business.

Strategies to Achieve and Sustain Dry Oil

With each passing year, we seem to receive more and more user feedback detailing and validating the business case for clean, dry and cool oil. Of course it's one thing to preach its value, but it's quite something else to actually achieve and sustain near-contaminant-free conditions.

Keep Equipment Running and Downtime Down

With Schaeffer’s hydraulic fluids, you decide when to stop working—not your equipment. Our hydraulic fluids reduce friction, maintain viscosity and dissipate heat, allowing your equipment to run cooler and longer.

What You Need to Know About Abrasive Wear

What You Need to Know About Abrasive Wear

Different methods can be used to determine if your machine has undergone abrasive wear. A visual inspection of the machine parts should be the first step in accessing the equipment for abrasive wear. However, sometimes the human eye cannot see the microscopic damage being done.

5 Ways to Reduce Lubricant Spending

Lubricant procurement is not the largest expenditure in a typical maintenance budget. However, it is viewed as a real, tangible expense that is frequently targeted for cost reduction. When it comes to lubricants, it is unwise to pretend to save money by “buying cheap.”

Lube Tip

Clean and maintain the level gauges.
The level indicators are the best allies of the technicians to know the amount of oil in each of the industrial machines. That is why the cleaning and maintenance of these elements are of enormous importance to have correct data.

In certain cases, the gauges predefined by the manufacturer often deteriorate or lack visibility when the glass darkens. The opacity of the reader could be due to the inside of the glass coming in contact with dirty oil or or the outside of the glass becoming contaminated with vapor or dust.

In order to avoid wrong measurements, it is recommended to add sensors that complement the factory installed ones as 3D meters. They are windows that are not installed flush with the machine, but rather protrude from the structure, facilitating level reading from various angles. And as it is an instrument of greater visual precision for the measurement, it is not affected by the darkening of the oil.
