Advantages of Contracting Out Your Lubrication Program

Advantages of Contracting Out Your Lubrication Program

If you do not have immediate access to skilled, trained and certified lubrication technicians, it may be time to look into contracting out this function. A good contractor not only can provide trained and certified lube techs but can also help you develop procedures for your lubrication-related tasks as well as implement, maintain and manage your lubrication program.

New Oil is Costing You

Typical new oils meet specs for performance and viscosity—but not cleanliness. That third spec is compromising your equipment and costing your business.

Headspace Management - Are You in On This Best-Kept Secret?

By now, most lubrication professionals are keenly aware of the reliability gains associated with contamination control. However, best practice may have nothing to do with removing contaminants or changing the oil. Instead, it’s a practice of stabilizing the cleanliness and dryness in the headspace environment.

4 Types of Oil Filter Failures and How to Prevent Them

There are 4 filter failure modes to be most concerned about: plugging, channeling, fatigue cracks and media migration. Each of these failure types has a distinct failure mechanism and method of detection. While they all are harmful, they can be prevented or detected with simple system analysis.

Oil Additive Reactions: What You Should Know

Incompatibility between lubricants should always be taken into consideration before creating a mixture or topping up a machine with a lubricant that is different from what may already be in use. When additives react with base oils or other additives to which they are incompatible, the reaction product likely will not provide its intended function.

Lube Tip

Inclined or vertical shafts can lead to grease escaping from the bearing due to gravity. This will eventually lead to lubricant starvation and eventual premature failure of the bearing. Consider using a grease with good adhesive properties of penetration class 2 to 3. In addition, a baffle plate, mounted in the housing below the bearing, will help to retain the grease where it is needed - in the bearing.
