Lube Tip

Along with identifying how much fluid a reservoir holds, we have found it very helpful to identify how many gallons per inch on the reservoir sight glass.  Measure the length and width of the reservoir in inches.  Multiply these two numbers together, then divide the product by 231.

This will give you gallons for every inch of reservoir depth. Place a label or tag near the reservoir sight glass with this information along with the fluid type. A maintenance person can measure the open space in the sight glass without fluid and plan for how much fluid is needed to top it off. — K. Zelkowski
