Inspection should be viewed with the same serious intent as other condition monitoring practices. A world-class inspection program should produce more “saves” than all other condition monitoring activities combined. It’s not an alternative to technology-based condition monitoring but rather a strategic and powerful companion.

Most facilities look intimately at each oil-filled component to ensure the selected lubricant can meet the demands of the equipment and still be properly lubricated. Meanwhile, greased components are rarely scrutinized, and grease consolidation is done heavy-handedly, often resulting in sub-optimum lubrication for many critical components.

High-speed applications like fans, blowers and pillow-block bearings often use the wrong lubricant, especially when they involve greased components. In this video, Noria’s Wes Cash explains how you can control this excess heat by selecting the proper high-speed grease.

Lube Tip

|
Don’t wait for your car’s power steering pump to buzz or fail. Changing your power steering fluid is a simplification of changing fluid in other hydraulic systems.
1. Suck the dark, cloudy, stinky fluid out of the reservoir, and refill with the proper fluid.
2. Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock — twice.
3. Repeat until the fluid in the reservoir looks like new fluid.
