What Is the ISO Cleanliness Code?

What Is the ISO Cleanliness Code?

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has developed a cleanliness code used as the primary reviewed piece of data on most industrial oil analysis reports. The value of this code can help determine the overall cleanliness of the monitored system.

New Oil is Costing You

Typical new oils meet specs for performance and viscosity—but not cleanliness. That third spec is compromising your equipment and costing your business.

3 Ways to Reduce Hydraulic Shock

3 Ways to Reduce Hydraulic Shock

Hydraulic shock occurs when oil rapidly starts or stops flowing in a hydraulic system or when an external force acts on a hydraulic cylinder or motor. Shock spikes that are not properly dampened or absorbed can result in leakage and damage to the lines and components in the system.

Tips for Monitoring Gearbox Oil

Tips for Monitoring Gearbox Oil

Just as with other mechanical components, oil analysis can help drive reliability in gear systems. When you monitor the condition of gear-related lubricants, it will be imperative to ensure they maintain the proper viscosity, film strength, corrosion control, demulsibility and chemical stability characteristics.

Unseen Contamination Present in New, Refined Oils

Translucent new oil is visually assumed to be clean but many times contains more contamination than the existing oil being replaced. Find out why, plus the critical proactive maintenance step to assure the new oil is clean.

The Answer

Lube Tip

Knowing the potential and probable sources of contamination helps to establish an effective exclusion program. In reality, three fundamental modes contribute to contamination:
 * Introduced by people - implanted during manufacturing or induced in the field during maintenance, repair, or overhaul operations.
 * Generated by the system - created tribologically, chemically, or by desorption.
 * Ingested by the machine - introduced by encroachment of energy, migration of microbes from the environment, or inhalation of dust, air, and water.
